Install TALOS Desktop
What it needs, which file to take, how to check it, and what the first run asks.
Checked on Desktop 0.1.15
A newer version is out (Desktop 0.1.25): some details may differ.
Requirements
Section titled “Requirements”- Windows 10 1809 or later, x64, or Windows 11 x64. Not yet tested on Windows 10.
- No Node.js installation and no administrator rights: the app includes Node.js.
- For GPU acceleration, a Vulkan-capable driver. Without one, TALOS runs models on the CPU.
Installer or ZIP
Section titled “Installer or ZIP”The installer is a per-user setup: it installs under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\talos-desktop, adds a “TALOS”
shortcut and starts the app. It never asks for administrator rights.
SHA-2566ad624118183f0228abc83312d427c3437261e45de8c9387e60b659007fac084
The ZIP holds the same app. Extract it completely into a writable folder and start TALOS.exe, keeping
resources and the DLLs next to it. It uses the same user profile as the installer: it is not a portable mode.

Check the file first
Section titled “Check the file first”Compare the file with SHA256SUMS.txt, attached to the same release:
Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256 .\TALOS-Setup-<version>.exeEvery release file also carries a GitHub provenance attestation. With the GitHub CLI installed:
gh attestation verify .\TALOS-Setup-<version>.exe --repo Ninozzz95/talosIf Windows says “Windows protected your PC”
Section titled “If Windows says “Windows protected your PC””The installer is not code-signed, so SmartScreen may show an unknown publisher. After checking the SHA-256 above,
choose More info, make sure the file name is TALOS-Setup-<version>.exe, then Run anyway. If the option is
missing because of a device policy, ask its administrator. Keep SmartScreen and Defender on.
The first run
Section titled “The first run”The first time, a short introduction asks for what TALOS cannot start without:
- a provider key — kept in the operating system’s keyring, never in the browser — or a local engine;
- a default model;
- how much it may do on its own;
- then the project folder to open.
It does not come back once completed or skipped.
Your data, updates and removal
Section titled “Your data, updates and removal”- Sessions, downloaded models, notes, tasks, memory, automations and provider settings live in
%APPDATA%\TALOS. - There are no automatic updates and no telemetry: a new version is a new download. The network is used only when you choose a remote provider, search the web or download a model.
- To uninstall, close TALOS (also from the tray), then Settings → Apps → Installed apps → TALOS → Uninstall (on Windows 10, Apps & features). Your data folder is kept: delete it yourself only if you also want to remove sessions, settings and models.
