Adjust the display and notifications

Set the width of answers, notifications, the mouse, the theme and what stays on screen when you leave.

Checked on CLI 0.3.3

A newer version is out (CLI 0.5.2): some details may differ.

/config opens the display settings. Up and Down choose a row; Enter, Left or Right change its value. Each change is saved at once, only for you in this project, outside the repository; Esc closes the panel. A change that cannot be saved leaves the previous value and says so.

Setting Values Applies
Response width — ui.maxProseWidth Full width, 60, 80, 100 or 120 columns At once, answers already on screen included
Notifications — ui.notifications auto, bell, off Next launch
Mouse-wheel scrolling — ui.mouse On or off Next launch
On exit — ui.exitOutput The transcript, or the command to resume Next launch

The width only limits paragraphs, headings, lists and quotes of answers: code, tables, your messages and the raw transcript keep the terminal’s width, and a narrow terminal wins over the setting. A custom width — any whole number of columns from 40 — can be set in your configuration. Wrapping never adds line breaks to the stored answer, to what you copy, or to an export.

With auto, TALOS tells you that a turn finished or failed, or that it is waiting for your approval — only after the terminal reports that it lost focus; a terminal that never reports focus stays silent. Windows Terminal on Windows shows a desktop notification; iTerm2, kitty and Ghostty use their own; other terminals, SSH and multiplexers ring the bell. bell always rings the bell; off stays silent. Notifications carry fixed messages: never your prompts, file names, commands or answers.

On terminals that support it, the tab or taskbar shows progress while a turn runs, even with notifications off.

  • /theme picks the color theme; the arrows preview it.
  • --no-color prints plain text.
  • TALOS_REDUCED_MOTION=1 turns the animations off.
