Set up TALOS the first time

The first-run setup, step by step — language, your name, the PIN, a model, what TALOS may do on its own, and long work in the background.

Checked on Android 0.1.38

A newer version is out (Android 0.1.40): some details may differ.

Install the app first: Install TALOS for Android. The first time it opens, a short setup runs. Every step can be skipped and done later from Settings.

  1. Choose your language — follow the phone, or pick English or Italian: the language of menus, settings and controls. It can be changed later in Settings → Language.
  2. The introduction — what TALOS is, in a few lines. Tap Set up TALOS.
  1. Name — what TALOS should call you. It stays on the phone, and is also saved as a global memory you can read, change or delete.
  2. PIN — choose a PIN of at least 6 digits. It becomes the key that encrypts your chats and files on this phone. Lose it and the data cannot be opened: there is no recovery. Skipped, the conversations are stored unencrypted until you set one — see Lock TALOS with a PIN.
  3. Model — paste a key for a provider you already pay for. It is kept in the phone’s Keystore and sent only to that provider. To start with a model on the phone instead, skip this step and see Run a model on the phone.
  4. Autonomy — what TALOS may do while answering, in three lines: read what you put there, create or change things, and leave the device. Choose Ask me every time or Let it act without asking. It can be changed later, one power at a time.
  5. Background — a deep research or a model download takes minutes, sometimes hours, and Android suspends apps when you lock the screen. Let TALOS work in the background keeps that work alive; the phone’s own extra steps, when it has any, are listed here. The Android permissions TALOS can ask for are listed in the same step, to handle now or later.

Tap Start using TALOS.
