A research runs as a session in plan mode (it reads, it does not change files) and keeps the sources it used. <id> is the research id talos research list shows.

Operation	What it does
`start`	Starts a research on a question and prints the id of the session running it.
`list`default	Lists the researches of the project.
`read`	Prints a research: question, state, report and sources.
`rename`	Changes the title of a research.
`delete`	Deletes a research.
`export`	Writes the report, or its sources, to a file.
`pause`	Pauses a running research.
`resume`	Resumes a paused research.
`cancel`	Cancels a research.

Without an operation, talos research runs list.

`start`

Starts a research on a question and prints the id of the session running it.

talos research start <question…> [--depth 2|4|6]

Arguments

question: The question, in plain words.

Options

--depth <value> default 4: How far it goes: 2, 4 (default) or 6. Values246

It uses the model given with the global --model option, otherwise openai:gpt-5-mini. A key found in the environment is used without asking; where the key comes from is stated.

Exit codes and errors2

Lists the researches of the project.

`read`

Prints a research: question, state, report and sources.

Arguments

id: The id talos research list shows.

Exit codes and errors1

`RESEARCH_NOT_FOUND`	`15`	The session could not be used. Pick a session from the list.

`rename`

Changes the title of a research.

talos research rename <id> <title>

id: The id talos research list shows.
title: The new title.

`delete`

Deletes a research.

talos research delete <id>

id: The id talos research list shows.

`export`

Writes the report, or its sources, to a file.

talos research export <id> <format> [out] [--tone report|brief|dossier]

Arguments

id: Research id.
format: md, html, pdf, docx, json, bib, ris, or fonti (the sources, as Markdown).
outoptional: Where to write it.

Options

--tone <value>: For pdf: report (default), brief or dossier. Valuesreportbriefdossier

json, bib, ris and fonti need the verification record of the research; without it they do not exist.

`pause`

Pauses a running research.

`resume`

Resumes a paused research.
