Make visuals, images and documents
Ask for an interactive visual in the chat, an image saved to the project, or a real document file — and what lasts after a restart.
Checked on Desktop 0.1.19
A newer version is out (Desktop 0.1.25): some details may differ.
Three things the model can make instead of describing. There is no button for them: you ask in words — “make me a chart of…”, “generate an image of…”, “write me a PDF with…” — and the agent calls the tool.
| You ask for | You get | It lasts |
|---|---|---|
| A chart, a live table, a small interface | An artifact: a small interactive page shown in the chat | Until the server restarts |
| An image | A real file in the project — PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF or AVIF — listed in the Library | Yes |
| A document | A real file — PDF, Word, spreadsheet, presentation — saved in the project | Yes |
Keep what you need
Section titled “Keep what you need”An artifact is kept in memory only. When TALOS restarts, it does not open again. If you will need it tomorrow, ask for its content as a document, which is written to disk.
An artifact has no access to your data: it is a page served apart, with security rules of its own.
Control it
Section titled “Control it”The tools behind these are governed in Capability, like every other: to stop TALOS from generating images, set that tool to deny. Keep in mind that generating an image and creating a document write to disk even when the write tool is denied — two of the three paths described in Permissions.
If something goes wrong
Section titled “If something goes wrong”- An artifact does not open again — the server was almost certainly restarted. It cannot be recovered: ask the model to make it again.
- An image is not in the Library — check that the generation finished; the file is written at the end.
