Keep long work running

Let TALOS work with the screen off, so researches, model downloads and scheduled tasks reach the end — and the extra steps some phones ask for.

Checked on Android 0.1.38

A newer version is out (Android 0.1.40): some details may differ.

A deep research or a model download takes minutes, sometimes hours. To save battery, Android suspends an app soon after you leave it or lock the screen — and the work stops there. One setting decides whether it does.

  1. Open Settings → Privacy and permissions.
  2. Find Running in the background and tap Allow. Android asks you to confirm.

The same choice is offered during the first setup, as Let TALOS work in the background. Until it is allowed, keep TALOS open during long work.

Notifications are worth allowing too: long work runs without them, but you will not see how far along it is.

Some phone makers suspend apps beyond what Android does. When TALOS recognizes the phone, it lists the extra steps under Extra steps this phone asks for:

Phone Extra steps
OnePlus, OPPO (ColorOS) Settings → Apps → Auto-launch: on for TALOS. Settings → Battery → Battery optimization → ⋮ → Advanced: turn off “Deep optimization” and “Sleep standby optimization”. In Recents, hold the TALOS card and tap the lock.
Xiaomi Settings → Apps → Permissions → Background autostart: on for TALOS. Settings → Battery → TALOS → No restrictions. In Recents, hold the TALOS card and tap the lock.
Samsung Settings → Battery and device care → Battery → Background usage limits → Never sleeping apps: add TALOS.
Huawei Settings → Apps & services → App launch: turn off “Manage automatically” for TALOS, then enable “Auto-launch”, “Secondary launch” and “Run in background”. In Recent tasks, swipe down on the TALOS card until the lock appears.
Honor Settings → Apps → App launch: turn off “Manage automatically” for TALOS, then enable “Auto-launch”, “Secondary launch” and “Run in background”. In Recent tasks, swipe down on the TALOS card until the lock appears.

The names are the phone maker’s own, as they appear on the phone, and can differ between versions.
