Your data on the phone

What TALOS for Android keeps — chats, the Library, memory, notes, tasks and researches — how the PIN protects it, what leaves the phone, and how to take it with you.

Checked on Android 0.1.38

A newer version is out (Android 0.1.40): some details may differ.

Everything TALOS keeps, it keeps on the phone. There is no account and no copy elsewhere, which makes the phone — and the PIN that locks it — the whole story.

With App lock on, in Settings → Account, TALOS asks for a PIN when it starts, and that PIN is the key that encrypts your chats and documents on the phone. It never leaves the device.

  • There is no recovery. Forget the PIN and the data cannot be opened — not by you, and not by anyone else.
  • Without the lock, your chats and documents can be read by anyone with access to the phone.
  • Biometrics can unlock it once the PIN has been entered.
  • Hide in app switcher and block screenshots stops Android from capturing TALOS’s window.

See Lock TALOS with a PIN.

Where What it holds
Chats Your conversations. An incognito chat is saved nowhere: leaving it discards it.
Library Files you bring — copied in, never uploaded — files TALOS makes, and pages it reads, each with where it came from.
Memory What TALOS carries into your next conversations, one typed memory at a time.
Notes Notes in Markdown, with checklists you tick inside the card.
Tasks To-dos with a state and a priority, and tasks that repeat on a schedule.
Research Deep researches: the question, the sources, and a report whose claims are checked.

A file you give TALOS is copied into its own Library: searchable inside the text, and private to the app. Each file records where it came from — which model made it, when and in which chat; or that you brought it in; or that it was downloaded from the web. A file is either available to every chat or only where explicitly attached. Deleting it removes it from the phone; past chats keep only its name. How chats may use the Library is up to you: see Use the Library in chats.

A memory is written only because you asked, or because the model asked and you approved. Each one has a kind — preference, project fact, procedure or policy note — and a scope: global, one project, or one chat. It can be on, paused, or waiting for your review when the model suggested it. Memories are always given to the model as untrusted context: they can never override TALOS’s rules. See Review what TALOS remembers.

Even your name, entered during setup, is kept as a global memory you can read, change or delete.

Nothing is sent to TALOS — there is no TALOS to send it to. What does leave, leaves for the service you chose:

  • your messages, to the cloud provider that answers, when it is a cloud model;
  • a search’s words, to the search service you set;
  • a page’s address, when TALOS reads that page;
  • a model download, from Hugging Face.

Each of these is an off-device action, and passes the off-device power. A model on the phone sends nothing at all.

Settings → Backup and restore exports everything — chats, messages, attachments, the Library, notes, tasks, memory, researches and settings — into one file encrypted with a passphrase you choose, saved where you choose, so it survives uninstalling TALOS. Provider keys are included only if you ask. See Back up and restore.

A single chat can also be exported, as a Markdown transcript or as a JSON evidence pack with its tool activity and sources.
