Forge a tool
Build a new tool for the agent from capabilities TALOS already has, without code, and turn it on when you are ready.
Checked on Desktop 0.1.19
A newer version is out (Desktop 0.1.25): some details may differ.
The Tool Forge is where a new tool for the agent is built without writing code: it puts together capabilities
TALOS already has, and decides what happens under which conditions. The agent can propose one with
tool_create; you decide whether it runs.
The capabilities
Section titled “The capabilities”There are eight, and a forged tool can use only these:
| Capability | Does | Risk |
|---|---|---|
| List tasks | Reads | R1 |
| Create a task | Writes | R2 |
| Change a task | Writes | R2 |
| List notes | Reads | R1 |
| Write a note | Writes | R2 |
| Change a note | Writes | R2 |
| Search memory | Reads | R2 |
| Write to memory | Writes | R3 |
A forged tool carries the risk of its riskiest capability. Searching memory only reads, yet it is R2: memory is read again by the model in every future conversation, so reading it is not as harmless as reading a note. A forged tool has no access to the disk, the network or the terminal.
Turn one on
Section titled “Turn one on”- Open Tool Forge in the sidebar.
- Select a tool to see its detail: capabilities, risk and when it was installed.
- Enable or disable it from the detail.
An enabled tool joins the agent’s tools and follows the rules of each tool like every other.
If something goes wrong
Section titled “If something goes wrong”- A forged tool is never used — check that it is enabled, and that its rule is not set to deny.
- Unrecognized capability — the tool declares a capability this version does not know.
- No description, or no state — the row says so instead of guessing.
