Choose what TALOS may do
Set the three powers, switch single tools on and off, decide how long an approval lasts, and take back every “always”.
Checked on Android 0.1.38
A newer version is out (Android 0.1.40): some details may differ.
Why there are three powers, and what an approval covers, is explained in Powers and consent. Everything here is in Settings → Agent Tools.
Set the three powers
Section titled “Set the three powers”Under What TALOS may do on its own, each power has one choice:
| Power | Always allow | Ask me every time | Never allow |
|---|---|---|---|
| Read your things | Runs without asking | A card asks first | Never runs |
| Create or change things | Runs without asking | A card asks first | Never runs |
| Send anything off this device | Runs without asking | A card asks first | Never runs |
All three start at Ask me every time.
Web search and page reading send search words or an address off the phone, and also save their sources in the Library: they need both Send anything off this device and Create or change things.
Switch single tools
Section titled “Switch single tools”Below the powers, the tools are grouped — Library, Personal, Web, Create, Models on this phone, This phone — each group with how many of its tools are on. A tool switched off is not sent to the model and cannot run, whatever the powers say.
A tool switched on can still be unable to run: it may need a model that supports tools, a service you have not set up — web search needs a search engine — or a power you refused.
Answer a card
Section titled “Answer a card”When a tool asks, a card in the chat shows what it is about to do, with its input:
- Allow runs this call and saves nothing;
- Always allow saves a grant for this tool on this phone — the card itself carries the “always”, so asking costs one question per tool;
- Don’t allow stops it, and the model is told you declined;
- Decide later leaves the card for later.
Several steps asked at once can arrive as one plan, from which you take steps out before approving the rest. See Consent.
Decide how long an approval lasts
Section titled “Decide how long an approval lasts”Under Approval duration:
- This message — the approval ends with the answer;
- The conversation, while trusted — it lasts for the whole conversation, until an untrusted page or document enters it. Then it expires, and the next use asks again.
Take back every “always”
Section titled “Take back every “always””Revoke saved authorizations removes every tool you set to always allow. The tools stay on, and follow your powers again.
Three more consents
Section titled “Three more consents”Settings → Privacy and permissions → Content and models holds three choices that decide what reaches a model: Library access, Writing memories and Sending attached images.
